Since the establishment of the Foundation on 20th October 2006 and commencement of its activities on 17.03.2007, we have supported the following NGO’s towards a common cause. As on date we have sanctioned projects worth Rs. 2 crore and the disbursements on these projects are being done in instalment basis depending upon the progress of the said projects. We have supported NGOs who are working in remotest village in North-East ,to tribal area of Kangra District of Himachal ,to remotest village in Pallakad, Bheemanad in Kerala. In other words, although the fund size was small during the 1st year, we have tried to reach to the remotest villages ensuring a Pan India Presence.

EDUCATION

(1) Infrastructure Support :

LIC Vocational Rehabilitation Centre - CSI Balar Gnana Illam under Salem Division

LIC Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for the mentally challenged children provides training in activities of daily living skills. They give vocational training to 136 students for envelops making, wire bag making multipurpose mat making, chalk making, Bakery products, etc.

This infrastructure development provided by LIC will enable the school to contribute not only for learning of the group of special children in a conducive environment but also help the children in their journey to become independent through development of mental faculties.

• LIC Residential Resource and Vocational Training Centre - National Association for the Blind (NAB) under Haldwani Division

LIC Residential Resource and Vocational Training Centre is for providing improved and regular training to 47 (5 yrs to 14 years visually impaired student) and 112 registered adult blind. This is the first and only institute in Kumaon Region working for the welfare of the blind.

• LIC Common Room for Multicultural activity- Dasghara High School, Hooghly under Howrah Division

This School is a renowned high school and has a historical heritage of spreading education in rural Bengal since 1858. The school caters to a large section of underprivileged students i.e. around 1500 students will be benefited for using LIC Common Room for Multicultural activity.

• LIC Vocational Training and Academic Centre - Sree Ram Krishna Prema Bihar, Khorip under Howrah Division

This is located in Kolkata, and is basically on a social reformative mission having around 212 students. LIC Vocational Training and Academic Centre will provide in upbringing of orphan children, helping the poor, destitute and distressed local poor.

• LIC Vocational Training Centre - DISHA – A Resource Centre for the Disabled under Jaipur Division I

It is a Resource Centre for the Disabled and winner of State award for outstanding services in the field of Rehabilitation. H.H.Rajmata Gayatri Devi is the Chairperson on the Board of this organization. There are 130 children and young adults who are getting training in various activities. The LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation has upgraded existing Vocational Training Centre by providing the required equipments for rehabilitation and training of the special children and young adults who suffer from mental, neurological and physical challenges.

• LIC Vocational Training Hostel - Rural Health & Welfare Programme, Sakwar under Thane Division

LIC Vocational Training Hostel is situated in a very rural & tribal area 20 Km away from Virar. Hundred students will be benefited by this scheme every year. Under this scheme 25 students each, will be admitted for tailoring, carpentry, electrical wiring, motor mechanism traits. The training and boarding will be free to all the students. The Math also provides tool kit to each of these students at the time of completion of training so that they can earn their livelihood immediately.

• LIC Library - Navjyot India Foundation under Delhi DO-III

This is under the aegis of Navjyoti India Foundation, which is being run under the tutelage of Dr. Kiran Bedi, winner of the Ramon Magsasay Award and a very eminent personality in the realm of social welfare. The objective of LIC Library is creating an atmosphere for education and learning for the rural children which will provide them with books to help them in inculcating a habit of learning and also enhance creativity, expressions, confidence and responsibility amongst them. Around 100 students from government schools will be benefited each year.

• LIC Golden Jubilee Hall - National Association for the welfare of the Physically Handicapped under Nagpur

LIC Golden Jubilee Hall is provided for around 50 blind handicapped, deaf & dumb children/ students of poor families. Besides this, imparting training, education with hostel facilities are also provided by the organization.

• LIC Learning Centre - Malenadu Education and Rural Development Society, Sirsi under Dharwad Division

LIC Learning Centre will provide education to around 98 under privileged children and to promote all round development of the children of rural areas.

• LIC Home - Akshaya’s Helping in H.E.L.P. Trust under Madurai Division

They are feeding mentally ill/very old people left uncared on the roads of Madurai since June 2002. LIC is providing home and includes safe/centralized place for the uncared, left on the roads, to provide an environment for rehabilitation and to provide peaceful place for the abandoned elderly people in their last days. It is a new initiative to provide free infrastructure in a remote village to neglected people in distress, aggravated by mental illness and old age.

HEALTH

(1) Public Health and Sanitation

• LIC Ophthalmic Operation Theatre - Arogyavaram Eye Hospital & contact lens clinic, Sompeta under Vishakhapatnam Division

This is a non-profit missionary hospital with social objectives, situated in a predominantly tribal backward district of Srikakulam. LIC Ophthalmic Operation Theatre will enable them to attend around 120 patients and 25 surgeries every day

• LIC Critical Care Unit - Satribari Christian Hospital under Guwahati Division

Satribari Chirstian Hospital is one of the oldest Hospital in Guwahati established in the year 1926. They are providing low cost services to the most needy sections of society. . LIC Critical Care Unit will enable them to provide high quality health care services at subsidized rates to around 20 patients every day.

• LIC Mobile Hospital - Mobile Van Dispensary Shree Dharmasthala, Manjunathewar Medical trust, Dharmasthala, under Udupi , Division

The aim of the institution is to provide medical facilities to the needy patients especially from weaker sections of the society. The rural health services provided by them since 1978 include medical check-up, medicine, and blood test services rendered by the Mobile Hospital Unit. 3 base camps identified by them are being rotationally attended by the mobile hospital for a period of two months. On an average 3000 patients are treated at each base camp per month.

• LIC Laboratory - Swami Shri Nirdoshanandji Manav Seva Trust, Timbi under Bhavnagar Division

The project is run by the local trust having social / charitable objectives to help rural / poor people at free / nominal cost. Dedicated team members of the trust look after the project. The project is in rural area where no good facilities of medical treatment are available, thus poor and needy patients in surrounding area of 30 to 40 kms will be benefited by LIC Laboratory as the hospital will provide medical aid to 200 to 300 patients daily.

• LIC Chemotherapy and Day Care Centre - Vasantha Memorial Trust, Chennai under Chennai DO I

This Trust is founded with a mission to prevent cancer. It operates from 3 cities : Chennai, Coimbatore & Mumbai. It has sponsored the treatment of 312 patients with varied cancers. LIC Chemotherapy and Day Care Centre aims to provide quality care to the poorest of poor who are cancer affected and continue its mass education program.

SMALL GRANT PROGRAMME

Through our small grants programme, the foundation has contributed in distribution of computers, hearing aid machines, cots, sewing machine, Audiograph machine, wheel chair, etc. The Foundation has supported the following NGO’s under small grants programme.

• Tapovan High School Residential School under SC/ST Development
   Department, Bhubaneshwar under Cuttack Division.

• Samajik Samasya Nivaran Ewam-Kalyan Sansthan, under Hazaribag. Division.

• Govt. BHSS Neyyatthinkara under Thiruvananthapuram Division.

EDUCATION

(1) Infrastructure Support :

The foundation has provided infrastructure support to the following NGOs/School to enhance the quality of education to the underprivileged children.

LIC Educational Wing --- Marudyan Primary & Junior High School, Dhanpota, Kolkata under KMDO-II

This school is situated in an under-developed block of Magrahat of South 24 Paraganas in West Bengal. LIC Educational Wing will provide benefit to about 600 students in the school.

• Learning Centre SOS Children Village, Latur under Aurangabad Division

The Learning Centre comprises of a Library, a Music room and a computer Lab within the village area. This would providethe children easy accessibility to new learning aids and computer literacy which is essential in steering the children towards fulfilling their goals and becoming self-reliant individuals. LIC Learning Centre will not only facilitate development of their inherent talent but also give opportunity to remain competitive. About 122 children will be benefitted with this support.

• Learning Centre, SOS, Shillong, under Guwahati Division

LIC Learning Centre will not only facilitate development of their inherent talent but also give opportunity to remain competitive. About 160 children will be benefited with this support.

• Tinisuti Bima School, under Guwahati Division

Tinisuti is a remote village in the backward tribal area under Guwahati Division. This is the only High School in the area. LIC Educational Wing will benefit about 300 students in the school.

• Navjeevan Centre, Kalyan under Thane Division

This Project is for upliftment and rehabilitation primarily of children of commercial sex workers who are undergoing residential training at the Navjeevan Village,Murbad.

LIC Vocational Training Centre shall help in equipping these children with skills and knowledge so that proper rehabilitation and integration in the main stream is possible.

• Govt.Upper Primary School, Bheemanad under Ernakulam Division

This school is situated in a very backward area in the district of Palakkad in Kerala.

LIC- School Library will provide books and reading material to students who are unable to pursue their studies due to lack of infrastructure

• Sai Vivekanand Vidyalaya, under Chennai Division-2

The school caters to the needs of the lower income group families. LIC Educational Block will benefit about 500 students in the school.

• Sr.Secondary School Surani, under Shimla Division

This school is located in a remote village Surani in Kangra distt.of Himachal Pradesh. Construction of community hall will fulfill multipurpose needs of the school. LIC Community Hall will benefit about 575 students in the school.

• Sewa Bharti(Madhay Bharat), under Bhopal Division

This organization is running an orphanage and taking care of abandoned children. LIC Centre will help in providing better hygienic atmosphere for the children

• Anand Kendra, under Gwalior Division

The Kendra has free schooling and hostel facility for Tribal children.LIC Library will facilitate the children further.

(2) Golden Jubilee Scholarship

• Golden Jubilee Scholarship, was awarded to 36 visually impaired children with National Association of the Blind, Mumbai. This was an effort to encourage children to be brought into regular schools. The scholarship ensures all kinds of support including Braille Books, Special teachers and other aids and appliances to visually impaired.

• Peoples Welfare Society , under Allahabad Division

Fully equipped mobile van dispensary was donated for providing medical check-up facilities at door steps of needy people in far flung areas of Chaka Block Vikas khand and surrounding block of Allahabad.

• Ramkrishan Math, Vyttila, Kochi under Ernakulam Division

Construction of Ground Floor of Dispensary

This centre is providing medical services to the poor people from the nearby villages and the patients are treated free of cost and provide free medicines.

LIC Block will help in providing better services to the poor.

Medical Assistance

• KEM Hospital, Pune Division

5 Cochlear implants were sanctioned to children belonging to weaker sections of society.

Cochlear implant is not just about surgery, it is a lifelong commitment on the part of the family and the programme for the child’s habilitation into mainstream of society. Contribution from LICGJF to few such families will help them in rehabilitating the children into the mainstream of society.
